Ketelhuis is part of the ‘Kazernplateau’, a former military base located between the city of Ede and the national park ‘De Hoge Veluwe’. This former boiler house is situated on the central axis between the Maurits- and Frisokazerne. It is a municipal monument because of its distinct architectural features, such as its circular windows, bespoke tiles and an in-situ concrete column and beam structure. It also has an important historical relevance, being one of the first examples of district heating in the Netherlands. The former military base is currently being redeveloped as the World Food Center district, a new neighbourhood consisting of housing and offices for companies focussing on food innovation.
